Ocean and Society Survey Case Studies for Communications Inc
The Ocean and Society Survey (OSS) is a tool for tracking public opinion about the ocean: 31 questions on what people think, feel, and do in relation to the ocean. It is a collaborative tool used by a global community - 50+ multi sector partners supporting design, analysis and application. The data is open access.
The aim of this project was to showcase how organisations from four countries had used the survey data, in order to encourage other organisations/countries to implement the survey. To create the case studies, I developed an interview process and case study template that could be replicated across each study.
Access the case studies:
Canada - the OSS data has informed national ocean initiatives and high impact ocean engagement
United Kingdom - the Ocean Conservation Trust used the data to develop an Ocean Friendly Homes campaign, reaching 50k aquarium visitors
Brazil - Boticário Foundation used the data to successfully lobby the government to integrate ocean literacy into the national curriculum (a world first)
Norway - the ocean data helped reshape the National Committee for the Ocean Decade’s strategy, putting ocean literacy front and centre
